Valiant Heart, the fifth and final book in my Frontier Hearts series, recently received an honorable mention in the Angel Book Awards. It was a pleasure to receive this award. Continue reading to see what the judges said.
Judge 1:
"I really did enjoy this book. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. You created great characters that made me root for them and care about them. I am not a fan of overly feminist FMCs, and I was concerned that Daisy being a doctor at that time period would keep me from connecting to her. Too often those sorts of characters are abrasive and take on a victim mentality at the resistance. But you did a really good job of showing the reality while not belaboring the point of how hard it was for a woman to break into that field of work. I will be looking up your other books."
Judge 2:
"Rafe's struggle with PTSD is very real. I was gripped from the beginning by the FMC's plight. The author did a great job of reeling me in with concern for Daisy. I was seriously angry with Rafe and wanted to shake him a few times. And Edith made me growl—out loud. I had tears in my eyes when Rafe finally came around."
